Sing, O Daughter of Zion;
shout aloud, O Israel!
Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,
O Daughter of Jerusalem!
The Lord has taken away your punishment,
he has turned back your enemy.
The Lord, the King of Israel, is with you;
never again will you fear any harm.
On that day they will say to Jerusalem,
“Do not fear, O Zion;
do not let your hands hang limp.
The Lord your God is with you,
he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing.” Zeph 3:14-17
Isn’t it awesome that we have a God who delights in each one of us individually? He rejoices over me with singing and dancing. I can’t even imagine my parents being so happy over me,and they are quite happy over me. And this is not because of something spectacular that I have done for God. In fact, at one level, what can I do for One who owns everything? It also is not because I’m good or useful or because I obey faultlessly (I don’t).
No, it’s simply because God is a God of such love that he delights in his creation. He delights simply to be with me and to rejoice over me.
And NOTHING I do or don’t do can change his delight in me, or his enjoyment of me by one jot. That’s amazing when you reflect on it. The perfect, most holy, never-made or will make a mistake God loves and delights in imperfect little me, all because He is my Creator and Father.
According to one writer the phrase “rejoices over you” can be translated to read “unbridled merriment, joy, hoopla, shouting joyfully, dancing, kicking his heels over”….Wow! Imagine GOD kicking his heels over me.
To think that I bring him joy and happiness rather than any other emotion is sometimes too much to absorb. I could go an entire lifetime and still not comprehend such love fully. But hey, I enjoy it. I enjoy being loved and enjoyed by the Creator of the Universe as if I were the only thing he ever made. I’m not, but he sees me (and each one of us), as unique and he has the same joy and delight over each one of us.
I find this mind-boggling and yet it is the truth. The bible says so unequivocally and God’s word is true. The question is will I accept this truth and let it change me from the inside out.
May we all know and experience the delight and joy God has in us and may it change us – forever.
